who we are

Stories & Lies is the passion project of four nerds and one super cool editor. Mat, Taylor, Thomas, and Wes play in and run a Delta Green campaign focusing on a serious exploration of narrative in a world that’s likely unexplainable. Ged edits and produces the show, bringing his masterful mixing to the project and elevating the production value.

Mat

Mat plays Fred Fontaine in our show. What started out as trying Dungeons & Dragons years ago out quickly became a main hobby, from D&D to his one true love: Delta Green. Pre-written campaigns like Masks of Nyarlathotep, Curse of Strahd and Impossible Landscapes are his favorite, where he can learn the content, then bend it and twist it as he wishes. In real life, he is a high school teacher with a love of literature and video games.

Taylor

Taylor plays Dorothy Somerset in our show. He facilitates show production and assists with editing some episodes. Outside of the podcast he is a graphic designer, software engineer, and security enthusiast. He is also an illustrator, and a writer, having dabbled in everything from short stories and poetry to full length novels. So far, he has 12 years experience running various game systems, but Delta Green and Pathfinder are his favorites.

Thomas

Thomas serves as the primary Handler (GM) for the show, and plays Morrison for the introduction. He writes, assists with production and publicity, and manages. He majored in Communications and Theater in college. In the real world, he works as an attorney. He has decades of experience as a GM in a variety of systems. His favorites are Vampire: the Masquerade, Call of Cthulhu, and Delta Green. He has prior experience in AP podcasts, featuring in The Great Dane Society (Quests and Chaos) and Redacted Reports.

Wes

Wes plays Willow Keason in our show. He is a computer science expert, and professional nerd, Wes has several years experience playing in and running RPGs, including Pathfinder and Starfinder, among others. Stories & Lies is his first experience with Delta Green, and the Cthulhu mythos in general. He brings an element of realism to our stories through research and real-world knowledge of some of the most grounded elements of Delta Green, such as law enforcement, medicine, and military operations.

Ged

Ged adds all the fun beeps and boops! Serving as the lead editor, he heads most of the production work for each episode, including sound design, music and mixing. Having fallen in love with tabletop gaming around eight years ago, Blades in the Dark, Monster of the Week, and of course, Delta Green, have emerged as some top picks. He is currently a student studying film and media, and also enjoys making and producing music of his own!

Arc Dream offers a free quick start guide called the Need to Know, available on DriveThruRPG. This little book contains everything you need to get started playing Delta Green, including rules, characters, and a starter scenario. All you need is a way to roll dice, and maybe a way to take notes.

Scenario Authors

In all cases, scenarios that we use for the show are modified to fit our table by the Handler who is running the scenario. We run both modern Call of Cthulhu and Delta Green scenarios, all adapted to use the Delta Green: The Roleplaying Game system.

Our first story is based on “Ladybug, Ladybug, Fly Away Home” published by Stygian Fox in their first book, The Things We Leave Behind. The book is edited by Jeff Moeller, who is also the author of the scenario, and who graciously joined us for an interview after the conclusion of our first scenario. This story is run by Thomas.

The second story is a home brew scenario called Painting Darkness, written by Taylor, specifically for the podcast. It may be available as a standalone module one day, but for now lives only in the show. This story is run by Taylor.

The third story, Static, is based on Unremembered by Heinrich Moore and published by Chaosium. Our story also includes elements and inspiration from Impossible Landscapes by Dennis Detwiller and published by Arc Dream. This story is the second run by Thomas.

Our first Patreon-exclusive series “Forget Me Not” is based on a story of the same name, written by Brian M. Sammons, also published in The Things We Leave Behind.

Sound and Music

The theme songs we have used in the show include “Where the Stories Lie” and “Sphinx” both by Fifty Dollar Dynasty, from their album Precession. They are a small band out of Texas, and were gracious enough to let us use their music royalty-free. Please support them, and please support your own local music scene. You can find their music on FiftyDollarDynasty.com, and on their Patreon.

The show also features music from Nine Inch Nails, provided under Creative Commons. This includes tracks from The Slip and Ghosts I - IV.

Sound effects and background music for the show are provided by Epidemic Sound and Envato.

Editing and Production is handled by Ged using Adobe Audition, with some episodes produced by Taylor using Logic Pro.
